It’s no secret that we at VictorOps are big fans of ChatOps. It’s something we strongly embrace, and so do many of our amazing customers and partners. This is due in large part to how ChatOps brings a new level of efficiency to alerting, responding, investigating, and resolving service disruptions (the core service VictorOps provides). Reducing the time it takes to detect and resolve incidents is critical, regardless of your industry. As the “State of DevOps Report” from Puppet Labs and DORA points out, a reduced MTTR (Mean Time To Repair) is a key indicator to high-performing IT teams. ChatOps has also become an integral part of the software delivery pipeline, as well as infrastructure maintenance and support. ChatOps is just how many in IT “get work done”, and it’s evolving well beyond just the IT teams.
In 2014, I had the privilege of writing “ChatOps For Dummies“. The very first publication on a subject that is beginning to catch on world-wide. Since then, I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of presentations, webinars, podcasts, articles, and blog posts on many different aspects of ChatOps. In that time, ChatOps has seen a increased level of adoption. As the benefits of DevOps continue to become extremely clear and more organizations begin their own DevOps journey, it is impossible to deny how much ChatOps has helped to facilitate those efforts for companies large and small.
